J. B. Hoyt
Sustainability Expert

J. B. Hoyt is a Sustainability Expert, educating consumers on how to maximize their energy and water savings through their appliances.  J. B. is proficient in energy saving tips from maintaining your washing machine hose to stocking the refrigerator – he’s got a tip to keep appliances running at peak efficiency.

J. B. wants consumers to know that being eco-friendly in the kitchen can simply start by using the dishwasher to clean dishes as opposed to hand washing. The dishwasher will use 1/5 the water and 1/3 the energy. According to J. B., even baking can be energy efficient through effective preheating, use of convection and by using the microwave to cook some parts of the meal.

That old refrigerator in the basement may seem handy, but J. B. says if it is 15 years old it may be using three times the energy when compared to today’s ENERGY STAR® qualified refrigerators. That may be enough to buy a few cold ones to stick in the kitchen refrigerator.
